The effects of haloperidol on cocaine-induced conditioned taste aversions.
Although the mechanism underlying the rewarding effects of cocaine has been well characterized, little is known about the mechanism underlying its aversive effects. Several reports have indicated a possible role of dopamine (DA) in the aversive effects; however, several procedural issues limit any conclusions regarding its specific role. In order to investigate a possible dopaminergic role in c...

Adolescence is a developmental period of particular importance given the host of neurobiological changes that occur during this stage of development. Drug use and abuse is said to be a function of the balance of its rewarding and aversive effects, and any age-dependent differences in morphine's aversive effects could impact drug intake. The present experiments examined the ability of morphine s...
متن کاملPhenylthiocarbamide produces conditioned taste aversions in mice.
Previous work has demonstrated that SWR/J (SW) mice avoid phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) to a greater degree than C3HeB/FeJ mice in 48 h, two-bottle preference tests given in ascending series. The authors hypothesized, based also on previous work, that SW mice might form a conditioned taste aversion over time due to the toxic properties of PTC. We directly tested this hypothesis by attempting to con...

Children with neoplastic diseases were offered an unusual ice cream before their drug treatments. Patients experiencing gastrointestinal toxicity due to the drugs were subsequently less likely to choose that ice cream again than controls. This suggests that taste aversions induced by drug-associated symptoms may contribute to the appetite loss experienced by cancer patients.
متن کاملPreexposure to cocaine attenuates aversions induced by both cocaine and fluoxetine: Implications for the basis of cocaine-induced conditioned taste aversions.
Although cocaine-induced conditioned taste aversions (CTA) are well documented, little is known about the basis for cocaine's aversive effects. To address the role of serotonin (5-HT) in cocaine-induced aversions, the present experiments used the cross-drug preexposure design in which the effects of exposure to fluoxetine, a selective 5-HT reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) with 5-HT transporter (SERT) ...
